Next step, must Ace 651...YES! this is the spirit. Try hard, and give out all I have. Professor Oliver is so nice...He thinks I am a good student too. Do better on the final---do all the readings before hand. finish first draft early and hopefully have him looked at it before I hand in. Put references everywhere, and cite more.

Today I saw a Russian film, called Mermaid. I haven't decided whether I wanted to use Chinese or English for this entry... I don't know which language can better convey my feeling...:( or neither, which is pity. If you do not get what I am saying, please check out this movie. It is  a really well-shot movie, in every detail. It is everything. Please be open-minded. If this seems absurd to you at first, please bear with me.
It's about a girl (Alice) who had a very pitiful life. The most unhappy life you can imagine. I may be exaggerating. But, you get the idea. She was a sideslip from her mom and a sailor. She wanted to be a graceful ballet dancer but her mom never allowed her to. She had a disabled granny. A hurricane destroyed their house on the beach. They moved to Moscow. They got a really cheap apartment, which window was covered by a huge advertisement. She got a job as a streamline worker, and then she worked in big costumes, such as cell phones or beers.
She met a rich man (her Sasha), who was the most unhappy person in the world. Sasha sold room on moon for living. Many rich people trusted him and bought "room" from the moon because they needed a place to escape to.How absurd!
The girl also had a super power and she wished for the best. She protected her lover. She saw her Sasha straying in the middle of high way. She shielded him from being attacked by the cars...She foresaw the plane that the man was going to get on to crush, so she made up a vivid story and saved him.
She was then hit by a car. Right before she died, she gave a brilliant smile to her hideous mom.
The movie was full of irony. I commented it as dark humor, which was disagreed by my roommate. My roommate asked me what I expected to happen. It's not any kind of humor. It was a HIDEOUS life. Alice tried her best to make every bit possible fun out of it, but didn't change the reality, which was cruel.
I like how my roommate interpreted it though. Instead of empathizing or keeping on denying such possibilities, she said the take home point might be this: we really should not complain out of no where any more. We have goals, we have opportunities, we have loving parents, we have friends and we have supports. Why can't we live the most out of our lives? Why can't we have a happy long life?
I remembered my philosophy teacher told me not to put a moral at the end of any essay because any rational people can get their own moral out of it...Again, bear with me.
